Cole,
I was going to write you that it is time to put some more paintings up on your website, but I guess you are waiting until you get closer to your show at Eva’s gallery. Maybe you can post Dakota’s drawing for some of my instant gratification.
Also I was wondering if you have a good jpeg of The Bridge that you could send me.
Hope you are doing well and I am looking forward to picking up Dakota and Ranch Road from the framer’s next week.
Hi Ron, you are correct — I am keeping the new oils under wraps both on my website and all my social media accounts so they don’t wear out their welcome before the show next year.
The Dakota drawing was a special piece for you alone, it is not indicative of my body of work so I do not plan on posting it on the site or on social media.
I am sure the framers did their usual bang up job! When you say The Bridge, do you mean the Ballona Creek oil painting that you have in the living room?
Hi Cole I just saw this reply a day ago. You already sent me a jpeg of the bridge piece, thank you.
Dakota had her last day at her day care at Adopt & Shop in Culver City. They really love her there and they gave her the sweetest card and cookie dog biscuits. It was so sweet and they asked us to post pictures of her and I was going to post your drawing but I want to make sure you would be okay with that first. Would that be okay? The staff there would sure get a kick from it as they live Dakota.
Also wanted to discuss another possible project although you may be too busy getting ready for your next show and school.
I will give you a call later.
Ron
I love the new Getty piece, beautiful.
Ron
Thanks Ron! Scaling it up was a bitch, but worth it! haha Needed a major shoulder massage when I was done with that one.
Some of its intangibles remind me Hockney, it’s a great piece and worth the shoulder fatigue.
Thank you so much Ron! Up next will be drawings from my recent trip to the Eastern Sierras (Mono Lake, Bodie, Mammoth) — but gotta keep my eyes on the oil paintings prize until Labor Day 🙂
Cole,
I love the new Getty Garden drawing, I think it will make great companion to the Getty drawing we already have. I left a message for Eva about it and look forward to hearing from her. Hope you are doing well.
Ron
I have to say I really like Chimento Backyard Looking 160 Degrees South. I was reading the Walter Isaacson Book on Leonard Da Vinci, which Iyou would really enjoy and thought about the Chimento piece when I read this in the book: “his advice about looking at a wall that is ‘spotted with stains or has a mix of stones.’ Leonardo could stare at such a wall and observe with precision the striations of each stone and other factual details. But he also knew how to use the wall as a spring board for the imagination and as a “way to stimulate and arouse the mind to various inventions.’ He wrote in his advice for young artists: “You may discover in the patterns on the wall a resemblance to various landscapes, adorned with mountains, rivers, rocks, trees, plains, wide valleys and hills in varied arrangement; or again you may see battles and figures in action; or strange facades and costumes in endless variety of objects, which you could turn into complete and well-drawn forms. The effect produces by these mottled walls is like that of the sound of bells, in which you may recognize any name or word you choose to imagine…It should not be hard for you to look at stains on walls, or the ashes of a fire, or the clouds, or mud, and if you consider them well you will find marvelous new ideas, because the mind is stimulated to new inventions by obscure things.'”
For some reason the Chimento piece resonated to me when I read this. Leonardo would be proud of you Cole.
